Photographs are edited for those taken by this company and those from an outside source. The slide show below shows some of the enhancements that are accomplished using Photoshop that are included in a basic editing plan and some enhancements that take and cost extra time.
Basic Editing: Pricing is at $25. This includes the following:
Cropping and rotating the photograph.
Lightening or darkening the overall general image.
Removing minor amounts of ring worm, manure and other material.
Extra Time: Call for pricing. This is for additional Photoshop work:
Lightening and/or eliminating shadows.
Background changes such as removing a fence post.
Removing excess manure and large areas of discolored/dirty hair.

The cost for a total background change generally starts at $85. The slide show below shows two different scenarios where backgrounds were completely changed.
Halter Removal

Pricing starts at $45. At times, it can be easier to obtain that perfect pose while photographing an animal on a halter. The photo below illustrates how natural the finished product can be. Please notice in the edited photograph below the lighting was improved as well as the sky and green grass were enhanced.
It is very common for there to be wrinkles and indentations in the skin when pulling on a halter to raise the head of an animal. If these are not removed properly, the image can look very fake.

Pricing starts at $85 for a partial cutout and $135 for a full cutout. When making a full cutout of an animal and the hooves are partially submerged in snow, grass or straw, the finished image can look fake if only part of the hooves are shown in the cutout. For a full cutout to look good, the part of the hooves submerged have to be recreated to make the image look complete, and this makes a full cutout more expensive than a partial cutout. The slide show below shows a full and partial cutout.
The Background and Subject Need to Match: When making a full cutout that has no background, it is best to remove the shadows or make them less noticeable on the body of the animal. Likewise, if there are shadows in the background of a partial cutout, the shadows need to be left on the body of the animal or the photograph may not look natural.

Restoring an old photo is very different than editing a modern digital photograph. In some cases, the process can be described as recreating a photograph. A modern photograph is a digital file that contains color and light information of which some of that information can be easily changed.

The original photo was taken with a film camera, and was a press photograph taken in 1959 of the Grand Champion Aberdeen Angus bull at the International Livestock Show in Chicago. Directly below the colorized image is a copy of the original black & white photograph.

- A Few Thoughts -
Photoshop is a powerful tool that can enhance photographs to help sell more livestock. If used incorrectly, this tool can do more damage than good.
A prominent retired Angus breeder who consistently had one of the best bull sales in the United States and who was a customer of J.C.'s said,
"If people think photographs have been messed with in Photoshop, THEY WILL NOT BID."
It is the opinion of this observer there are many photographs that look fake, and many livestock producers don't realize these fake photos are costing them money.
